Peninsula Sports Performance Partnership

We are thrilled to announce we have signed Peninsula Sports Performance as our official Strength and Conditioning Partner! The prevention of injury is key in our sport and this partnership is incredibly important to us as we look to keep all our athletes healthy and performing to the best of their abilities.  What better way to do this than with Peninsula Sports Performance!

James Cheers, the strength and conditioning mastermind and owner of Peninsula Sports Performance is beyond qualified for his field.

On the partnership, Cheers said “I am excited for the opportunity to work with all the athletes and coaches at Southern Peninsula Sharks. Through this partnership I hope to provide the club with the knowledge and expertise they need to navigate the world of high-performance sport. Peninsula Sports Performance will be working from the ground level with individuals and teams at the club, helping athletes manage injuries, run faster, jump higher and ultimately maximise their athletic potential.”

With his gym opening recently in Dromana’s industrial estate, familiar faces from our Senior Program have already been seen working with Cheers. To date, all athletes engaging with Peninsula Sports Performance have seen incredible results and success through this program.

Peninsula Sports Performance Scholarship Program

As a part of the partnership, we are pleased to unveil the Peninsula Sports Performance Scholarship Program. This program will select two athletes per intake (one male and one female) which will give them free access to the facility and resources.

Included in the scholarship program are a number of extra components including a detail-oriented onboarding process that takes athletes through a bio-mechanical screen to testing their mobility, strength and movement skill when sprinting, jumping, landing and cutting.

Additionally, athletes will be provided with an individualised training program that is specific to their screening results, injury history and the goals they have for their sport. This program will guide the scholarship athletes towards improving their basketball performance.

The gym is open between 3:30pm – 7:00pm Monday to Friday offering supervision from a strength and conditioning coach to guide reps, sets and weights as well as teach proper exercise form in order to get the most out of each session.

The program acts as an introduction into the world of high performance and all athletes enrolled into the program are welcome to continue their training after the conclusion of each intake.

On this exciting partnership, Director of Coaching & High Performance, Matt Brasser commented “The partnership between Southern Peninsula and Peninsula Sports Performance will be an extremely beneficial one for our junior and senior athletes. James is an outstanding person, and his knowledge is second to none.”

“Having a partnership with a facility such as Peninsula Sports Performance, gives our club an extra sense of professionalism and allows for our athletes, coaches and members to learn proper warm up, cool down, rehab procedures and so much more. James’ patience with the young athletes and kind words of motivation is something that the kids, and adults, within his program respond incredibly well to.
I look forward to seeing the results from the athletes that complete James’ scholarship program over the next few months and we are excited to continue to work closely with him, to provide the best opportunity for Southern Peninsula athletes to excel.” added Brasser.

The gym is open between 3:30pm and 7:00pm Monday to Friday with athletes allowed in to train anytime within those hours.
